If infection attacks the throat, it needs help and protection. And offence is the best defense. Trachisan®*, time-tested German product, can be very helpful in this case.

Due to its three major ingredients i.e. tyrothricin, chlorhexidine and lidocaine, Trachisan combines three essential actions that are necessary in infection and sore throat, namely: antibacterial, antiseptic and analgesic.

Tyrothricin is a niveau antibiotic that acts topically only (!), it is not absorbed by blood, and therefore does not cause toxicity, and does not irritate mucosa, does not affect intestinal microflora, thereby eliminating the majority of bacteria and fungi; chlorhexidine is the most famous antiseptic that has a broad spectrum of action, enhances tyrothricin effect and helps to eliminate inflammation; lidocaine is a local, often used analgesic component, which helps to get rid of the pain quickly.

To ensure efficient and long-term exposure to pathogens it is recommended to resolve Trachisan® tablets (!). Not to wash the drug off throat mucosa, it is recommended not to drink or to eat within the next 30 minutes after tablet resolution. Trachisan has a pleasant mint flavor, contains no sugar and is approved for use in adults and children from 4.

The medication contains a combination of substances having antimicrobial and local anesthetic properties.

Tyrothricin is a mixture of various cyclic and linear (aliphatic) polypeptides with antibacterial effect. The mixture contains 70 to 80% of tyrocidine, alcaline cyclic decapeptide, and 20 to 30% of gramicidin, a neutral linear pentadecapeptide.

Tyrocidine causes release, from bacterial cells, of substances containing nitrogen and phosphorus that destroy, like cationic detergent, osmotic barriers of bacterial cell memranes. Tyrocidine shows bactericide effect on growing and dividing microorganisms.

Gramicidin creates cation conducting channels in bacterial cell memrane causing changes in intracellular concentrations of cations and cytolysis. Gramicidin promotes further separation of tissue respiration and oxidative phosphorylation processes.

The range of Tyrothricin effect covers gram-positive cocci, bacteria, and some types of fungi – for example, Candida albicans.

As opposed to antibiotics, Tyrothricin does not show any microorganism cross-resistance. Its property is the result of the specific mechanism of Tyrothricin effect.

Chlorhexidine and its salts cover a wide range of antimicrobial properties regarding gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

The mechanism of Chlorhexidine effect is based on its affinity with microorganism cell wall changing its properties after contacting the active substance.

Lipophilic chlorhexidine groups cause disaggregation of cell wall  lipoprotein membrane and break cell osmotic balance, thus destroying the exciter cell cytoplasmic membrane.

Affecting some gram-negative bacteria (Pseudomonas, Proteus), yeast, dermatophytes, and microbacteria is insignificant. Chlorhexidine is inefficient against fungus spores, putrefactive fungi, and viruses.

Lidocaine hydrochloride is local anesthetic of amide type. The medication causes blocade of nerve fiber sodium channels thus disabling the process of nerve cell membrane depolarisation via active potential. At the same time, transmission of excitation in sensitive nerve fibers are blocked.

1 pill shall be administered, by sucking in oral cavity, every 2 h. The daily dosage for adults and children aged over 12 is 8 pills; for children aged from 4 to 12 years, it is 6 pills.

As a rule, any disease symptoms disappear in several days, but in order to reach stable therapeutic effect, it is recommended to extend the treatment course for more 2 or 3 days. If after 5 days of using the medication there is no improvement observed, it is necessary to consult a doctor. Permanent use of the Trachisan pills for sucking without doctor’s prescription shall not last more than 2 weeks.

Children: It is not recommended to administer the medication for to children aged up to 4 years since it must be sucked.

Pregnancy and lactation periods: So far, there are no reports about using the medication in pregnancy and lactation periods.

Trachisan contains no sugar, so its administration cause no caries and thus it may be used for patient with diabetes mellitus by recalculating the sugar surrogate, sorbitol, to bread units (0.69 g of sorbitol is equivalent to 0.057 BU).
